PUNXSUTAWNEY — Hannah Lary took first place with a time of 22:32 at Tuesday’s tri-meet with Punxsutawney and Brookville, but the Bradford Lady Owls couldn’t secure the victory.
Bradford lost 21-40 to the Lady Chucks and 25-36 to Brookville.
“Hannah ran a very smart race,” Bradford coach Mark Kelley said. “SHe got out well in the first mile and was able to finish hard to beat Punxy’s top runner.”
Bethany Bednez finished sixth for the Owls with a time of 23:26.
“Bethany was still recovering from Saturday’s race,” Kelley said. “She ran very hard at our home invite and it affected her today. She ran a great first two miles but the weather and tired legs got her in the third.”
Alex Safran (28:01) and Brianna Keller (30:39) finished second and third, respectively.
“They continue to improve as the season goes on. It is tough to run two meets in four days especially in the humid weather.”
Bradford’s JV team improved to 4-0 with wins over Punxsy (15-50) and Brookville (16-45).
Korie Dixon finished first in the two-mile race with a time of 14:26. Caitlyn Taylor (second, 14:29) and Aubrey Cruz (third, 15:19) rounded out the top three finishers.
“These three continue to run hard up front. They are very consistent and steady during their runs.”
Also earning medals were Elisa Hayden in fourth (16:12), Kali O’Neil sixth (17:16), Leila Bines seventh (17:17), Jaylee Koppenhaver 10th (18:09), Carly Evers 12th (18:58), Sophie Cornelius 13th (19:06), Brynn Haviland 14th (19:15), Treyna Allen 17th (19:57), Keira Cleveland 19th (20:06) and Kaylee Dennison 20th (24:06).
“All of thee girls continue to run hard each day,” Kelley said. “This was Jaylee and Carly’s first race and they both ran great. Now we have to focus on closing the gap between our number three runner and our fourth and fifth runners.”
The Lady Owls will participate in the Sharpsville Blue Classic Saturday at Buhl Park in Sharon.
