ST. MARYS — Dr. G. Brian Toth’s contract as superintendent of St. Marys Area School District has been renewed for five more years with a pretty big caveat — a salary freeze agreed to by Toth.
At Monday’s meeting, the St. Marys Area school board voted unanimously to renew Toth’s contract. And Toth agreed to a salary freeze for the length of the contract. Toth’s salary at the start of this contract in August 2019 will be $158,397. Over these five years, the district will save about $101,000 in salary and employer costs.
“I understand school finance and freezing my salary is best for the district,” said Toth. “At this stage of my career, the strength of the district is more important than salary increases.”
He thanked the board, the teachers, staff and the community for the opportunity to continue to serve as superintendent.
Over the last four years at the district, all facilities have been upgraded, the technology infrastructure replaced, personalized learning opportunities implemented, STEM labs created in all buildings, and a public positive media presence has been established.
The curriculum is being revised to further meet student needs. Under Toth’s tenure, the district turned around the food service program; building improvements were completed without increasing debt service payments and healthcare costs were curtailed by joining a new consortium.
Toth began his career in 1983 as a math and computer teacher. He is in his 16th year as a superintendent, 23rd year in public school administration and serves on many local, statewide and national governing boards.
