BATH, N.Y. — A Kersey, Pa., woman died in a motor vehicle accident Monday night in the Town of Cameron, Steuben County.
Tessa L. Updyke, 19, of Kersey, was pronounced dead by Steuben County Coroner Dr. Robert Cole, according to Bath-based state police.
Police stated that at 10:18 p.m. Monday, a vehicle driven by Updyke was traveling north on Route 10, when it went out of control on a bend in the road and exited onto the west shoulder. The vehicle rolled multiple times and came to rest in a ravine. Updyke was ejected from the vehicle, police stated.
A passenger in the vehicle, Creo L. Babcock, 17, of Saurbier Road, Cameron, was able to walk to a nearby residence for assistance, police indicated. Police did not say if Babcock was injured.
Cole ordered that an autopsy for Updyke be completed at Lourdes Hospital in Binghamton, police said.
The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
The Cameron Fire Department and Ambulance and the Bath Fire Department assisted on scene.
