ST. MARYS — After opening its season this past weekend at the Fort LeBoeuf Tournament, the Bradford volleyball team won its first official match on Tuesday by defeating Elk County Catholic 3-1 (25-16, 18-25, 25-18, 25-15).
The win marked the first official victory for new Lady Owls head coach Steve Daniels.
“It was a great, fun night,” Daniels said. “ECC pounded the ball and so did we. Everybody was a great spectator.”
Laney Kahle recorded 29 assists for Bradford, while Alexis Huber (15 kills), Morgan Tyger (10 kills), and Ashton Himes (nine kills) provided plenty of firepower at the net.
“Brittany Rounsville had a great back row game as did Erica Marshall,” Daniels added.
Bradford will play its home opener on Thursday when it hosts Sheffield.
Port Allegany 3, Coudersport 2
PORT ALLEGANY — The Lady Gators won a five-set marathon against Coudersport on Tuesday, winning by the count of 25-27, 26-24, 25-18, 18-25, 15-6.
“It was a big win for our girls,” said Lady Gators coach Pam Terrette. “They played a complete game. It was a total team effort.”
Among the big contributors for Port Allegany (1-1, 1-0) were Jenna Sprankle (23 assists, 16 service points), Kierra Keck (eight kills, three blocks, 12 points), Kayla Pesock (eight kills, 10 points), Erin Stauffer (13 points, five kills), and Maleah Daniels (seven kills).
Coudersport (0-1, 0-1) got key performances from Shaelyn Black (24 kills, three blocks), Mikayla Gunn (four kills), and Mikayla Kavounas (18 assists).
Port Allegany will travel to Cameron County on Thursday.
Cameron County 3, Oswayo Valley 0
SHINGLEHOUSE — Tapanga Allison totaled seven assists and Morgan Lorenzo had five kills in a 25-14, 25-20, 25-22 Cameron County sweep.
Hailey Hilfiger and Kaelee Bresslin added three blocks and four aces, respectively, for the Red Raiders (1-0).
Naomi Cook had four aces and two kills for Oswayo Valley (0-1).
Smethport 3, Northern Potter 2
ULYSSES — The Lady Hubbers earned a five-set victory on the road on Tuesday, outlasting Northern Potter (28-26, 15-25, 23-25, 25-12, 15-6).
Alexis Shall notched 10 kills, six service points, three blocks, and three aces for Smethport, while MyKayla Deyarmin finished with four kills, 12 assists, and five aces.
Smethport will be at home on Thursday against Galeton.
Galeton 3, Otto-Eldred 2
GALETON — The Lady Terrors lost a five-set heartbreaker to Galeton on Tuesday by the score 25-20, 25-12, 23-25, 22-25, 16-14.
Contributing for the Lady Terrors were Veronica Benini (12 kills), Reilly Raught (seven kills, seven points, three aces), Emilie Reitler (10 service points, one ace), and Emmalee Sheeler (13 points, three aces).
“You’re not going to win too many matches when you miss 24 serves,” O-E coach Jame Thomas said afterwards.
Otto-Eldred will be at home against Austin on Thursday.
