McCAIN: Bradford resident Donald Neal sends us poetry every now and again, and he wrote one about the late Sen. John McCain called “A True Hero.”
We lost a hero the other day
His name was John McCain.
He was a true American,
In our memories he will always remain.
He flew his plane over North Vietnam,
The danger he had known.
He was held in a POW camp
After his plane was shot down.
He returned to his country America,
And served in our government.
To help all the people in America,
This was his only intent.
He loved his country America,
And in Congress he proudly served.
He wanted to help the common people,
To get the benefits they deserved.
He fought those in his own Republican party,
To help the working man survive,
To help the elderly by saving the health plan,
And to help them live better lives.
He is gone now, his work is over.
I know he is in Heaven above.
This hero gave his all for America,
The wonderful country he loved.

MONTHS: With the beginning of September coming on Saturday, we’re thinking about the inevitable end of summer. Here’s a fun way to describe it, borrowed from our predecessors in 1908.
“The vacation season is on the toboggan. It will soon be a matter of pleasant memories interspersed with recollections of high prices.”
