STATE COLLEGE — The Bradford girls golf team placed sixth in the State College Invitational on Thursday.
The Lady Owls shot a team score of 309 in their first team event of the season. The team from McDowell High School shot a 256 to claim first.
Elyse Godding had the low score for Bradford with an 89, while Kate Huber (94), Adrienne Angell (115) and Emily Keltz (120) rounded out the other Owl participants on the day.
“It was our first time out this season and the first on the Penn State course,” girls golf coach Judy Abbey said. “With all the (130) golfers participating it was pretty intimidating for the girls to start. The nerves came out but they played much better on the second nine.”
Bradford begins match play this afternoon at Ridgway, where Abbey is confident her group of girls can improve from their first round of the season.
“We have a lot of work to do to get our scores up, but it was a good first time out,” she said. “This was great for us getting acclimated to play golf in a very competitive way.”
