A Lackawanna, N.Y., man has been charged with allegedly using a moving van to steal kayaks from a South Kendall Avenue residence.
Joshua Lacki, 36, is charged with one count of theft by unlawful taking, a first-degree misdemeanor.
According to court records, on July 23, a resident of South Kendall Avenue called 9-1-1 to report that a full-sized rental truck pulled into her driveway and took two kayaks that were in her yard. Foster Township Police started toward her residence, passed the truck, turned around and pulled it over. The driver, Lacki, asked police if he was speeding, but when the officer said he had stopped him for an incident and asked the him to open the back of the truck, Lacki said, “They are in there,” the records stated.
Lacki opened the back and the kayaks were inside. He said to the officer, “Please do not arrest me, I know it was stupid,” the records allege. He took the kayaks back to the house and apologized to the owner.
He was arraigned Thursday and released on $2,500 unsecured bail. He is scheduled to appear in Central Court Aug. 30.
