KANE — A man allegedly running from police led them directly to methamphetamine making materials inside his Kane garage.
Shane Hurlburt, 28, of 429 Maple St., is charged with manufacturing meth, possession with intent to deliver and possessing the precursors for meth, felonies; operating a meth lab, a second-degree felony; and five counts of possessing drug paraphernalia, misdemeanors.
According to the criminal complaint, at 11 p.m. Sunday, Kane-based state police were called to assist Kane Borough Police with a wanted subject. Police believed Hurlburt had run into a garage at the east side of the property. The garage door was open, and in plain view officers saw a baggie of suspected marijuana and a glass pipe, along with several items that are commonly used to manufacture methamphetamine.
At 2 a.m. Monday, a search warrant was served at the garage. Located inside were several plastic bottles with white crystalline substances inside them. “These bottles are common vessels used in the manufacturing of methamphetamine,” the complaint stated. Also located inside the garage were cut open lithium batteries, lye bottles, Coleman fuel, cold compresses, and plastic tubing and coffee filters containing residue. All of the residue tested positive for meth, the complaint stated.
Hurlburt was arraigned Wednesday before District Judge David Engman and remanded to McKean County Jail in lieu of $75,000 bail. He is scheduled to appear in Central Court Aug. 23.
