This year, the United Way of the Bradford Area is challenging the local community to “Be The Change,” with the annual fundraising effort to be led by Theresa Funk.
Funk, a regional sales manager at Zippo Manufacturing Co., said she’s honored to be tasked with leading this year’s campaign.
“I’ve already had the opportunity to visit many of the organizations funded by the United Way, and I did not realize how many people are impacted by the annual campaign’s support,” said Funk.
Funk says her inspiration to get involved with the local United Way at this level stems from years of involvement at other capacities, but also from an innate desire to give back and ensure that people have what is needed.
“I’m honored to be this year’s chair, and I look forward to speaking with people in our community about how we all can make a difference and ‘Be The Change.’ Everyone likely knows and cares about someone using the services the United Way provides — myself included.”
This year’s monetary goal is again set at $340,000, an amount that has been surpassed during each of the last two campaigns. Staff, board and campaign volunteers — while recognizing the continued challenges faced in raising such significant funds — are confident that the community understands the necessity of the programs and services that continue to be supported by the efforts, and will be as generous as it has in the past. All funds raised during the annual United Way campaign benefit local non-profit health and human service organizations serving the Bradford area.
The campaign is already at 8 percent of that goal, with efforts continuing through Dec. 15. All money raised will be distributed throughout the local community during the 2019 calendar year.
The local office is also inviting the community to make reservations for the 20th annual Pig Roast/Clam Bake, presented by Northwest Bank and scheduled for Sept. 6 at the Bradford Township Lions Club.
Advanced reservations are $35 per person (walk-ins will be $40 per person) and include a buffet dinner, desserts and beverages. Raffles and 50/50 tickets will also be available. Those wishing to attend can reserve their tickets by calling the office.
Proceeds from the event benefit the United Way.
