BLESSINGS: In “Overflowing Baskets of Blessings” by Frances Wolfe Haight of Kane, she shares poems and prose about her faith and recounts the blessings that have come her way.
In one of the booklet’s segments, Frances lists a few of the religious leaders who have encouraged her over the years:
“Blessings at Church”
I have attended a number of different churches but all of them had pretty much the same traditions, versions of faith and duty, caring teachers and preachers. Nearly all of them have helped me or encouraged me in some way over the years. The following are just a few.
Rev. Hurst — He married Nate and I in the Mount Jewett Methodist parsonage in 1953. Unknown to me until later on, he took Nate to one side and told him: “She’s a good girl and you be good to her.” When Nate would not argue with me or fuss, I could not figure it out and then he told me that he had never forgotten what the preacher had said at our wedding.
Rev. Blauser — a very special man and his wife. They got me into teaching Sunday School, over the fear of playing piano in front of the congregation at church, brought me to the Lord one night after prayer meeting and helped me when my son died and encouraged me when I had so many things to do at once and was sort of lost in the crowd.
Rev. David Lee — a very energetic young man who knew me to my very soul and helped me be more sure of myself and my life’s goal.
Rev. David Souder — a sympathetic man who helped my husband and myself do many things we never thought possible. He truly was a minister of the Lord.
Do any of our readers have stories of encourage they received from local pastors who deserve a little credit for their support?
