PORT ALLEGANY — Sheetz in Port Allegany will be going through some changes.
At Monday’s meeting of Port Allegany borough council, the council members approved a request for an intermunicipal restaurant liquor license transfer. This will allow Sheetz to renovate the existing Sheetz facility to add seating for a minimum of thirty customers and transfer a Restaurant Liquor License that was obtained in a recent auction to the facility in Port Allegany.
Also at the meeting, council approved a study to be done to determine if the intersection of Katherine Street and Benton Avenue needs to become a four-way stop or if the two stop signs need to be put on Katherine Street instead of on Benton Avenue where they are currently.
In attendance was a representative from the Northern Pennsylvania Regional College. The representative requested that the council let individuals know that they are here. The college is currently one year old and is working with the Port Allegany School District to get students to take advantage of this opportunity. The college offers several courses that are $60/credit for eligible dual enrolled high school students and $185/credit for adult learners. Some of the courses are Foundations of Business Enterprise, Intro to Criminal Justice, Foundations of Teaching, Business & Professional Communication, Public Speaking, and College Algebra. Council also brought up the need for more part-time police officers. The current force is undergoing a strain due to understaffing, and needs another part-time officer. They are hoping to get another part-time officer before they are forced to add another full-time officer, which would create more expense for the borough.
Council’s next meeting will be at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 3.
