DUKE CENTER — The attendance at the Otto Township supervisors’ monthly meeting Wednesday night may have been down, but the persistence of those present remained high in their resolution to reduce blight in the township.
Along with several complaints and photos submitted, the township has made limited progress. One property owner was cited, with the outcome still in legal limbo. It was brought up that the local ordinance may need reworked to be fully effective. It was agreed that resident Dick Rivers will attend the McKean County Blight Committee on Aug. 16 to get suggestions on improving and enforcing the township’s code. Supervisor Chris Claycomb suggested the police force allot a specific number of man hours to combat this problem. A proposal was also made to form a committee to address the issue. Both of these ideas were tabled until next month, with the hopes that the county meeting will dispense some welcomed ammunition.
It was suggested that the supervisors look into upgrading the township’s website. They will be contacting local web builders and report on this at next month’s meeting. Plans were discussed to raze the old pool building in the township park and update the electrical service in time for next year’s Old Home Days. The Eldred Borough-Otto Township Police Force is in its new office in the Otto park and a new cruiser will be in service by the end of the month.
One supervisor will be attending the McKean County Association of Township Officials annual meeting on Oct. 4, location TBA.
One subdivision was approved; one more unnamed road was christened; tar and chipping will commence on Moody Hollow Road; and a bid from IA Construction Corp. was accepted for the paving of 1.4 miles of Kansas Branch Road.
The next meeting will be held at the township office, 695 Main St., Duke Center, at 6 p.m. Sept. 12.
