Changes are coming to a Foster Brook intersection that has been called a safety hazard for years.
During Monday’s regular Foster Township supervisor meeting, officials opened the only bid they received for a project at the intersection of Derrick Road and East Main Street. That bid, from Cummins Construction Co. of Bradford, is for $208,010.95.
For now, supervisors tabled the bid until they can review it and make sure the bond is correct.
The changes are at least three years in the making, said Supervisor Gus Crissman, who described the updates after the meeting. He indicated that the long delay was in part due to working with the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.
Changes will include the following: the traffic lights will be put on posts; wiring will be fixed; the road will be widened; and, for traffic making a right turn from Derrick Road onto East Main Street, a utility pole there will be moved back.
In other road-related news, road foreman Chad Babcock said a paving project that was scheduled for Interstate Parkway is now set to begin Aug. 13.
“We hope to have it done before school starts,” Babcock said.
Also at the meeting, supervisors passed two resolutions.
The first regarded the 2018 impact fee revenue of $31,890.64. That revenue will be appropriated into the 2019 budget.
The second was a request by the Bradford United Soccer Club. In 1984, the club had been given use of the Foster Brook Community Park to play. The club requested a new agreement for use of the soccer field, which the supervisors granted for a period from June 30, 2018, to June 30, 2020.
The next regular supervisors meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Sept. 10, one week later than the usual time, due to the Labor Day holiday.
