State Rep. Martin Causer, R-Turtlepoint, is reminding area senior citizens about the 16th annual Senior Citizens Expo –– scheduled to take place on Friday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford’s gymnasium.
Causer described the event as informative for seniors, their families and caregivers.
“I encourage everyone to come out and take advantage of the opportunity to get a wealth of information in one convenient location. The expo provides a great service to the community by bringing so many resources together all at one time and in one location,” Causer said.
Admission for the expo is free and a complimentary lunch will be provided.
The expo will consist of state, county and local exhibitors who will provide information and answer questions about health care, insurance, nutrition and exercise, fire safety, financial planning, fraud protection, government services, hunting/fishing and personal safety. Various health screenings will be available, including screenings for blood pressure, body fat analysis, pulse oximetry and depression, and door prizes will be awarded.
Causer added, “There are about 80 exhibitors scheduled to attend the expo on Friday. Many are based in the Bradford area, but there are many others from across the region and some from Harrisburg. Many of the exhibitors are health care-oriented, such as Bradford Regional Medical Center, UPMC Cole, Penn Highlands Elk, Erie VA Medical Center, Keystone Rural Health Consortia, Allegheny Vein and Vascular, and more.”
Causer’s local offices, in Bradford, Coudersport and Kane, will be closed on Friday, but his office in Harrisburg will be open on Friday; his office may be reached at (717) 787-5075.
Causer sees the annual expo as a great for citizens to stay informed and up to date.
“This is a convenient way to gather a lot of helpful information. We have been hosting the expo for 16 years now, and every year we see new people coming in to take advantage of the opportunity. There are many businesses, nonprofit organizations and government agencies that provide valuable services to senior citizens, but they don’t always know what is available to help them,” Causer said.
Additional senior expos will be held on Sept. 14 at the Kane Community Center, and on Oct. 12 at the Roulette Fire Hall.
