Bradford Area Public Library’s summer reading program, “libraries rock,” was a success.
On Monday, library officials announced 43 children through the 6th grade tracked their reading and read a total of 1,125 books. A total of 645 children participated in the summer reading workshops.
The reading program read books and turned in reading logs after they rated each book. The program began June 12 and ended a month later with a picnic July 13. The children received prizes for their accomplishments. Children ages 0 to 6th grade participated in the Libraries Rock Summer reading workshops ran from June 12 to 28. Participants learned about string and percussion instruments, put their poems to music and learned about different types for music, from classical to rock. Free snacks, made possible by the USDA summer food service program, were passed out to 364 children.
These programs would not be possible without the involvement of the community.
Although the summer programs have come to a close, other programs for children will continue. The Story Seekers program is returning on Monday mornings from 11 a.m. to noon for children ages birth to 5. The Art Club and Imagination to Build On: Architecture Group will also return in August for children going into the 1st through 6th grades. Spacing for these clubs is limited to 12 participants and pre-registration is required.
The evening storytime will be moved to the first and third Wednesday of each month at 6 p.m. These programs are free and open to the public.
