REST ROOM: Here’s a little reminder of the importance of the little things in life.
In 1920, The Era wrote about the popularity of, of all things, the new public restroom.
Apparently the chamber group installed the toilet, presumably in downtown Bradford, though we’re not sure where.
The article appeared in the Aug. 5, 1920, edition, under this heading: “Board of Commerce Rest Room Popular: Universally Favorable Comment on Civic Hospitality — Many from out of Town Visit the Rest Room — Board’s Spirit Commended”
It seems the board of commerce was keeping track of who used the bathroom, too.
The article states, “The public Rest Room provided by the Board of Commerce, has proven a great success. The universal comment of all the women who have visited it has been one of praise.
“The register shows that visitors from Cleveland, Harrisburg, Detroit, Buffalo and Oil City have used it, besides those from our neighboring towns of Duke Center, Rixford, Rew and Mt. Jewett.
“One lady in expressing her appreciation of the Rest Room, stated that she considered it one of the best things the Board of Commerce has done. Another stated it was ‘just what we needed.’ Everyone interviewed heartily commends the Board of Commerce for its thoughtfulness and progressive spirit.”
RECIPES: Now that it’s nearing August, the farmer’s markets are in full swing with loads of fruits and vegetables to choose from — and more to come as the season progresses. We’d love to hear from our readers if they have any good recipes for locally grown produce.
Or maybe you get more tomatoes every year than you know what to do with, and you’re looking for some good recipes? Let us know and we’ll put the question out to our readers.
