SMETHPORT — A Gifford man pleaded guilty Thursday in McKean County to a charge stemming from vehicle theft allegations.
Tyler J. Newman, 18, of Gifford, entered the guilty plea to one charge of theft by unlawful taking. According to District Attorney Stephanie Vettenburg-Shaffer, on April 26, Newman stole a vehicle from his mother and tried to sell it; there were other items in the vehicle that were not recovered, too. He will be sentenced Aug. 2.
Robert W. Duck Jr., 39, of Kane, pleaded guilty to charges in two cases. In one he’s charged with simple assault-mutual consent, and in the other he’s charged with possession of drug paraphernalia. Assistant District Attorney Jerry Grill said that on May 12, 2017, Duck was in an argument with Ronald Jordan, and strikes were thrown; then, on July 26, 2017, Duck possessed a silver spoon with drug residue on it. Duck will be sentenced next week.
Shayne W. Reed, 23, of Bradford, was sentenced to a term of 10 days to one year in McKean County Jail with credit for 10 days of time served and one year of probation for charges of conspiracy to commit theft, conspiracy to commit receiving stolen property, burglary, criminal trespassing and a summary charge. When Reed was first charged, he and Amber Harris were accused of breaking into a shed in Bradford, damaging it, and taking items worth an estimated $2,672.
Samantha L. Hinchman, 31, of Limestone, N.Y., pleaded guilty to a charge of simple assault. Grill said that April 22 in Bradford City, Hinchman struck someone in the head. She will be sentenced Aug. 2.
Franklin A. Lucas, 29, of Snow Shoe, pleaded guilty to a charges of possession of unstamped cigarettes. On March 12, Franklin possession about 2,800 unstamped cigarettes, said Grill. He will pay a $1,000 fine.
Lynn C. Riazzi, 35, of Kane, pleaded guilty to charges in two cases. In one case she’s charged with retail theft, and in the second she’s charged with attempted retail theft. On Oct. 13, 2017, Riazzi took $74.36 in merchandise from Dollar General in Kane; then, on Jan. 6, she tried to conceal $46.69 in merchandise in another container in order to steal it, but she was not successful, according to Grill. She will be sentenced Aug. 2.
Suzanne R. Payne, 29, of Port Allegany, pleaded guilty to charges of possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and DUI-controlled substance. She will be sentenced Aug. 2.
The following people were accepted into the Accelerated Rehabilitative Disposition Program: Ashley N. Haight, 28, of Kane, for two cases, a DUI alcohol case and a criminal mischief case; Justis S. Jones, 18, of Bradford, and William K. Schroll, 25, of Bellefonte, both for possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia and DUI-controlled substance; Daniel E. Geer, 34, of Mount Jewett, for DUI-alcohol and controlled substance; Brian M. Steen, 34, of Bradford, and Allen K. Jenkins, 72, of Kane, both for DUI-alcohol; and Timothy L. Taylor, 67, of Bradford, for DUI-general impairment.
