The board of directors of the Bradford Area Alliance on Monday announced the selection of Carolyn Boser Newhouse as executive director.
“Carolyn has long been recognized as an authority on issues important to building a prosperous Commonwealth,” said Julie Marasco, Bradford Area Alliance board president. “Now, Carolyn’s grasp of policy and dynamic economic development experience will enable her to serve the interests of our community on the important issues affecting our region.”
Newhouse brings a wealth of policy experience and record of effectiveness in working on matters related to economic development at the state and federal level. Locally, Newhouse has more than 20 years of successful entrepreneurial and business expertise. As a governor appointee, Newhouse served as deputy secretary for the Pennsylvania Department of Community & Economic Development responsible for job creation and retention throughout the Commonwealth through management of 70 grant, loan and tax credit programs, approving more than $2.248 billion in economic development projects.
Following this appointment, Newhouse launched and implemented a national community-based initiative as part of VA Secretary’s MyVA transformation strategy focused on tailored employment and education support that improves transitioning service members, veterans, and their families’ economic success across 50 of the most populated U.S. metropolitan areas. In 2016, Newhouse served as a lead on the Transition Assistance Program (TAP) to plan, analyze, and evaluate the quantity and quality of VA TAP activities at military installations around the world supporting approximately 226,000 transitioning service members annually. This initiative was a part of the Congress legislated improvements to TAP with the passage of the Veterans Opportunity to Work to Hire Heroes Act (VOW Act).
“I look forward to working collaboratively with our local and regional partners in the public and private sectors to collectively strengthen our economy and community. The Alliance is an amazing example of forward-thinking leaders investing into the community. It has a long-standing record of success under the previous executive director, Mike Glesk, and I look forward to making a difference in my hometown,” said Newhouse.
She earned her undergraduate degree in computer science from the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford and is a graduate of the Entrepreneur Leadership and Advanced Entrepreneur Leadership programs at the University of Buffalo where she is currently pursuing her Executive MBA.
