PORT ALLEGANY –– Dangerous and condemned structures will now be more easily recognizable in the Port Allegany Borough.
On Monday, borough council finalized an ordinance relating to dangerous structures.
Officials say that the ordinance will allow the borough to place a symbol on the building designating it as a dangerous and/or condemned structure. This symbol will serve as a visual notification for borough employees, emergency services personnel and others that the building had been designated a dangerous structure and/or condemned.
Also at the meeting, council authorized the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation to improve the Mill Street and Arnold Avenue railroad crossing.
In other business, borough council named Heather Szuba as borough secretary, replacing Beth Pifer. Szuba will train under Pifer for the next month.
“Thank you for your service. It’s been a pleasure having you work here,” Council President Andrew Johnson told Pifer.
Officials announced that Open Arms Community Church of Port Allegany will host an event on the square July 21. Part of the event will include a fireworks show. Young Explosives will launch fireworks from Eric Johnson’s lot near Barrett Avenue.
Borough council will holds its next meeting Aug. 6, starting at 7:30 p.m. at the municipal building at 45 West Maple St.
