LOST DOGS: More dogs are lost on the Fourth of July than on any other day of the year.
However, by following these suggestions, pet owners can ensure the safety for their dogs this Independence Day:
First, make sure the dog is wearing a visible collar with an updated ID tag.
Second, make sure that recent photographs of the dog are available in case the dog goes missing.
Third, exercise or play with the dog earlier in the day before attending any events; that way the dog will have expended its energy and will be more relaxed.
Fourth, when playing with a dog, remember to do so away from any grills or open flames.
Fifth, keep items such as fireworks, glow sticks and charcoal in a place where dogs will not reach them.
Sixth, keep treats readily available and make sure there is plenty of water for the dog.
Seventh, if the dog is afraid of fireworks because of the loud noise, leave a TV or music playing at a volume loud enough to cover the noise of the fireworks.
WINE & SPIRITS:While we’re on the topic of your Fourth of July get-togethers, the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board says that Fine Wine & Good Spirits stores will be open on the holiday.
The stores will open at their normal times, but all will close at 5 p.m.
It will also be open for Labor Day, Columbus Day and Veterans’ Day.
OUTAGE:Penelec announced that there will be a planned power outage in part of Bradford City this morning, when they will be making some repairs.
Some customers are expected to lose power from 5 to 10 a.m. today in the area of Boylston, Amm, Kennedy, Main and Pine streets.
