COUDERSPORT — A New Jersey man died Sunday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash on Route 155 in Portage Township.
Patrick Davies, 84, of Medford, N.J., was pronounced dead at the scene by Potter County Coroner Kevin Dusenbury, Coudersport-based state police reported.
According to police, at 3:32 p.m. Sunday, a sport-utility vehicle driven by Davies was traveling west on Cowley Hill Road, when it reached the intersection with Route 155. The SUV turned left onto Route 155, pulling into the path of a Peterbilt Hale Trailer Brake and Wheel vehicle that was operated by Joseph L. Skillman, 41, of Emporium, and traveling north on Route 155.
The front of the SUV and the front of the Peterbilt collided, police said.
Davies was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash, according to police; meanwhile, Skillman, who was wearing his seatbelt, was not injured.
The investigation is ongoing.
Assisting on scene were Austin Volunteer Fire and Ambulance and Port Allegany Ambulance.
Route 155 was reportedly closed for several hours while first responders were on scene.
