Six of the seven counts against a Port Allegany man accused of lighting his brother’s foosball table on fire and threatening him with a BB gun were bound to McKean County Court Monday.
Karl E. Renner, 43, appeared for a preliminary hearing before District Judge William Todd. Renner continues to face charges of reckless burning or exploding, a third-degree felony; simple assault, a second-degree misdemeanor; criminal mischief, a third-degree misdemeanor; and summary charges of harassment, dangerous burning and disorderly conduct.
A first-degree felony charge of aggravated assault was withdrawn, court records indicate.
According to the criminal complaint, at about 11 p.m. May 3, state police were called to a residence in Port Allegany for a domestic dispute. The victim, Troy Renner, told police his brother, Karl Renner, had showed up at his house and was “upset because (the victim) would not drink a beer with him,” court records stated.
Troy Renner told his brother to go home, but that made him mad, at which point he started yelling profanity. He walked to a garage owned by their mother and started throwing Troy Renner’s belongings out of the garage and into the yard, the records stated.
He pulled out his brother’s $600 foosball table, struck it several times with an ax, got a gas can out of the garage, dumped the gasoline on the table and lit it on fire, according to the complaint.
When Troy Renner went to the garage to confront his brother, Karl Renner allegedly pulled out a BB gun and pointed it at him. The two wrestled on the ground over the gun, and Karl Renner punched Troy Renner in the face at least twice, causing injury, the records alleged.
Karl Renner is free on $30,000 unsecured bail.
