A Duke Center man who faces more than 50 charges related to theft and firearms waived preliminary hearings in two cases Monday before District Judge William Todd.
Seth A. Hanes, 20, is accused of joining other people in breaking into numerous vehicles in Port Allegany between May 20 and June 7, and stealing items from them.
Hanes is charged in one case with theft by unlawful taking, possession of firearm prohibited, deliver firearm after 48 hours elapsed and receiving stolen property, all second-degree felonies; firearm not to be carried without a license, a third-degree felony; 15 charges of theft from a motor vehicle and 30 charges of theft by unlawful taking, all first-degree misdemeanors; loitering and prowling at night time, a third-degree misdemeanor; and disorderly conduct, a summary charge.
One of the items Hanes was accused of taking was a .9 mm handgun, which he sold to another person for $200, the criminal complaint stated. Hanes is prohibited from having firearms due to prior charges.
In the second case, Hanes is charged with simple assault, a second-degree misdemeanor, and harassment, a summary charge, for an alleged incident April 24 in Eldred Borough, court records indicate.
He is incarcerated in McKean County Jail in lieu of $50,000 for the theft charges.
