OLEAN, N.Y. — Three Otto-Eldred (Pa.) High School graduates recently received scholarships totaling $8,500 from scholarship funds managed by the Cattaraugus Region Community Foundation.
Ethan Flexman, Alyssa Shelander and Marhea Unverdorben each received the Bob and Barbara McCord Scholarship.
This scholarship, now in its second year, is for graduating seniors of Otto-Eldred High School, established at CRCF through the Bob and Barbara McCord Private Foundation.
The scholarship is for students attending a post-secondary institution (one-, two- or four-year institutions), preferably in the career/technical fields. Recipients must also be in good academic standing and be involved in extracurricular activities.
All three students received $2,000 scholarships.
All three of the students also received a scholarship from the Otto-Eldred Alumni Association Scholarship Fund. Shelander received a $1,000 scholarship. Flexman and Unverdorben each received $500.
The Otto-Eldred Alumni Scholarship is a scholarship given annually to Otto-Eldred High School graduating seniors who have maintained at least 2.75 grade point average and received acceptance to, preferably, a two-year college or a four-year program.
Shelander also received the Albert A. Bennett Jr. Family Scholarship.
Sue Bennett established the scholarship, $500 this year, in memory of her husband to benefit a graduating Otto-Eldred senior pursuing a post-secondary degree at a two- or four-year institution. Recipients should demonstrate academic excellence, participation in extracurricular activities and strong educational/career goals. Mr. and Mrs. Bennett and their four children all graduated from Otto-Eldred.
Flexman will study safety management at Slippery Rock University. Unverdorben will attend Jamestown Community College to study nursing. Shelander will study physical therapy at St. Bonaventure University.
