MOUNT JEWETT — A series of events are planned in the coming week at Kinzua Bridge State Park.
At noon on Sunday, the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources will host Sunday afternoon at the bridge, where staff will answer questions about the viaduct.
At noon on Independence Day, a veterans’ tribute will be held. DCNR staff will hold a brief talk about the Fourth of July to honor America’s birthday and the sacrifices made for the nation by veterans. All veterans are welcome. Participants should meet at the flag.
From noon to 1 p.m. July 5, park staff will share “viaduct ‘ventures,” stories of the bridge’s history including the barnstormer who flew his plane under the structure.
At noon on July 6, a class on introduction to geocaching will be held. A limited number of GPS units are available on a first-come-first-serve basis to use to search for a geocache located in the park. Call the park office to register to make sure you have a unit. The number is 778-5467.
A program on the history of the bridge will be offered from noon to 1 p.m. July 7. Park staff will lead a walk onto the Skywalk.
A program on the history of deer in Pennsylvania is scheduled for 2 p.m. July 7. Guest speaker John Dzemyan will talk about whitetail deer in the visitor center classroom.
And at noon on Sunday, a flora walk will be held, looking at the many plants that grow at the park. The park naturalist will be along to point out some interesting aspects of plants along the way.
At Bendigo State Park, a fish for free event will be held from noon to 2 p.m. July 4 at the East Branch of the Clarion River. No license is needed for the event. Participants must obey all other PA Fish & Boat Commission rules. Meet near pool area.
