Charges against a Genesee man accused of shooting a 91-year-old relative, wounding him in the right shoulder blade and right cheek, were bound to Potter County Court.
John T. Polen IV, 21, of 221 Corcoran Road, was charged June 16 with attempted homicide after allegedly shooting Turner Polen the day prior.
The online court docket for the case indicates that all four charges — attempted homicide, two counts of aggravated assault and one count of recklessly endangering another person — were bound to the county court at a preliminary hearing held Monday before District Judge Kari McCleaft.
John Polen remains incarcerated in McKean County Jail without bail.
The younger Polen was reported to have an “antagonistic” relationship with his elder relative.
At 1:14 p.m. June 15, John Polen’s mother, Pamela Polen, called 9-1-1 to reported that her son had shot Turner Polen. Coudersport-based state police went to the residence to find Turner Polen on his back, with one hand covering the right side of his face, covered in blood. Police were unable to interview him at the scene, according to court records.
Police interviewed John and Pamela Polen and learned that she saw Turner Polen drive past the residence, then park along Corcoran Road and get out of his car. She told her son that Turner Polen was there, the records stated.
She said her son retrieved a gun from a hutch in the kitchen and went outside through the front door. She heard her son yelling, asking “what are you doing here” several times before she heard a gunshot. She saw Turner Polen was on the ground, and John Polen was walking back inside, the records alleged.
Police were able to interview Turner Polen by having him write down answers, and he said “JT Polen” shot him because he was mad, court records stated.
John Polen is represented by Wellsboro attorney William Hebe.
