KANE — The Kane United Methodist Church will host a concert at 7 p.m. on June 27 at the First United Methodist Church of Kane.
The evening of music is open to the public and all are encouraged to attend the concert. The church cautions to be reminded of the construction taking place near the church when planning travel times.
The concert is slated to be the highpoint of a weeklong church music workshop held annually at Olmsted Manor Retreat Center. This concert is the culmination of the workshop sessions in adult choral music, handbells, liturgical movement, and organ music.
The theme for the week is “Arise Shine For Your Light Has Come.” This year the presenters include Don Besig and Nancy Price, a well-known composing team. The two have been writing together since 1980 and they have collaborated on more than 250 compositions for both school and church choirs. The insight they have gained though their combined years of directing choirs has led the Price/Besig team to create some of the most appealing original compositions and arrangements available in today’s market.
Besig currently directs the adult choir at Perinton Presbyterian in Fairport, N.Y. For over 30 years, he taught music in public schools at all levels in western New York. His concert choral groups and show choirs earned fine reputations for their performances at clinics, contests and community events. He has conducted festivals and workshops in 40 states and Canada. Besig is a graduate of Ithaca College.
Price holds Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degrees in music education from Ithaca College and, for several years, was a high school choral director. She is actively involved in the music program at Perinton Presbyterian Church in Fairport, N.Y., and frequently performs as a soloist and guest conductor.
The workshop also features some other church music leaders. They include, Ron McEntire, organist at Christ First United Methodist Church in Jamestown, N.Y. Jean Seaman will lead the liturgical dance sessions along with Sue Garton directing the Bell Choir sessions. Luella Krieger, visitor from the past ministries, will also be presenting.
