EVENTS: The first weekend of summer is a busy one in McKean County.
We have the Jeep Jamboree and Relay for Life in full swing at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford, and a lot more to do all around the county.
The 9th annual Eagle Riders Dice Run kicks off this morning, with registration starting at 9:30 a.m. The ride takes off at 11 a.m. from the Eagles Club on East Main Street, and will return to the club by 5 p.m. The ride — which is open to the public and benefits children with autism and disabilities — will cover about 100 miles, all within Pennsylvania. Bikes, cars, trucks or any road legal vehicle is welcome to participate.
There is a $20 cost per person, which includes a chicken barbecue dinner. A band will play downstairs at 7 p.m.
Over in Eldred, the Eldred hometown downtown hoedown will be held from 5 to 10 p.m. today. Admission is $2 for ages 12 and up, and $1 for anyone 11 and under. Because of rain in the forecast, the event will be held at the Eldred Borough Fire Hall.
The event benefits the Eldred Area Free Library and Historical Society and includes line dancing and instruction, pie and cake auction and food available.
Today in Bradford, a farmer’s market will be held on Foster Brook Boulevard from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Vendors will have fresh produce, baked goods, flowers, decorative objects, wooden crafts, ceramics homemade jams and pickles, candles, and more.
And don’t forget the arts, which will be well represented in Kane and in Smethport.
The 12th annual Art in the Wilds will be held in Evergreen Park in Kane from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. today and Sunday.
And Arts on the Island will be held in Hamlin Lake Park in Smethport with fireworks at dusk tonight. There’s a car show set for today, with cars arriving at 10 a.m. A parade will be held around 4 p.m. Vendors will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. today and noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday.
