SUMMER: Welcome, summer.
Today is the first official day of the season, and downtown Bradford will be celebrating the year’s longest day with music.
The second annual Downtown Bradford World Day of Music celebration will be held from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m., with Main Street closing at 4 p.m. between Kennedy and Congress streets to make room for outdoor stages.
In addition to live music, there will be demonstrations, an instrument “petting zoo” and food.
Other ways to celebrate the summer solstice include having a bonfire, going out for ice cream or going swimming.
The forecast calls for sunny skies with a high near 75. Perfect for music making.
FIREFLIES: One of more magical happenings at this time of year is the emergence of fireflies.
While fireflies are not technically magic, seeing their glowing green bodies blinking by the edge of the forest brings to mind images of fairies. You can imagine the cast of “A Midsummer’s Night Dream” frolicking among them.
Anyway, the 2018 Pennsylvania Firefly Festival is set for noon to midnight Saturday at the Black Caddis Ranch and B&B in Kellettville in Forest County. The town is located between Tionesta and Marienville.
There will be local artisans, educational exhibits, live music, children’s activities and food.
Tickets for the guided firefly walks are sold out, but we’re of the opinion that you don’t need a guide to enjoy the fireflies in the Pennsylvania Wilds. Many of us don’t need to leave our properties to enjoy the magical insects.
Summer really is a great time to live in rural Pa.
