SHINGLEHOUSE — The 111th commencement of the Oswayo Valley Middle/High School was held on June 1 in the high school gymnasium.
Thirty-four seniors received diplomas during the ceremony.
The presentation of medals was made by District Superintendent, Dr. Michele Hartzell. The welcome address was presented by Shayla Bickel, the recipient of the Third Honors Award. She is the daughter of Chris and Amy Bickel of Shinglehouse. She will attend Pennsylvania College of Technology and major in physical therapist assistant.
The commencement address was given by Dustin Taylor, class valedictorian, son of John and Jennifer Taylor of Shinglehouse. He will attend Pennsylvania College of Technology and major in physician assistant studies.
Also giving a commencement address was class salutatorian, Jacob Karr, son of Kris and Denise Karr of Shinglehouse. He will attend St. John Fisher College and major in pre-pharmaceutical studies.
Presentation of the class was made by Principal Douglas Dickerson and diplomas were given to the students by Board of Education President Don Leilous.
Closing remarks were given by Kaleb Keech, class secretary, and son of Kelly Rice.
Music was provided by Natalie Seely.
Awards and scholarships were announced by Jane Perkins, guidance counselor. Over $200,000 in scholarships sponsored by local organizations were made available to Oswayo Valley graduates.
