Four graduates of the Class of 2018 at Bradford Area High School have been awarded the Harry Lasky Scholarships, each in the amount of $3,500.
Announcement was made at the school’s annual awards assembly on June 5.
The recipients are: Courtney Craft, Noah Evers, Sarah Nichols and Jessica Stack. Each recipient earned significant academic honors throughout high school.
The Lasky Scholarships, which in the past 13 years have amounted to $182,000 in scholarship aid to graduating BAHS students, are named in memory of Harry Lasky, longtime Bradford civic leader whose heirs endowed the scholarships under the non-profit Bradford Public Schools Foundation.
The awards are given in recognition of one’s participation in community and school activities, character references, academic standing and financial need, and an essay addressing the value of advanced education. Judgments of recipients’ applications are made by an independent panel.
The scholarship amounts have differed each year depending upon earned investment interest from the endowment. Managing the Lasky fund and all education-related funds under the Foundation is County National Bank through its Bradford and Clearfield offices.
