American Refining Group Inc. announced Shane Speaker has earned a promotion to instrument technician III.
Speaker worked as seasonal labor at the refinery from 2009 to 2012 and was hired full time in the instrument shop in 2013. Having demonstrated proficiency in the journeyman role in which he was hired, Speaker advanced to instrument technician II in February 2015.
ARG’s instrument technicians install, calibrate, build, check and maintain digital and analog control instrumentation including flow, temperature, pressure and level transmitters and control valves. They install and perform scheduled maintenance and testing on the refinery’s environmental monitoring equipment and on-stream analytical equipment; install, program, troubleshoot and repair all truck and railcar loading and unloading systems; engineer, configure, program and test programmable logic controller (PLC) projects; and maintain prints and records.
In response to operator trouble reports, technicians must conduct on-site analysis, locate the source of control or instrumentation problems and apply solutions using engineering flow sheets, logic diagrams, electrical schematics, electrical ladder logic diagrams, pneumatic logic prints and other information sources.
A Bradford resident and graduate of Bradford Area High School, Speaker earned an associate degree in specialized technology, maintenance electricity and construction technology from Triangle Tech (DuBois) in 2012.
