DOOLITTLE: On June 7, we wrote about a very accomplished Bradford native who recently passed away.
When it comes to being successful, there are many things that can get in the way, one reader reminds us.
We mentioned “a Bradfordian who made a names for themselves,” and the expression brought to the reader’s mind a quote by U.S. Air Force General Jimmy Doolittle: “If you want to grow and get better, get around those that will stretch you.”
Our reader explained, “In other words, don’t hang around with dummies that aren’t going anywhere or trying to improve themselves.”
That’s definitely good advice. Negativity is contagious.
Our reader offered a short biography of General Doolittle.
The general “planned and led the first aerial attack on the Japanese mainland” during World War II. The April 18, 1942, event is also known as The Doolittle Raid.
He was also a Medal of Honor recipient, a graduate of Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), and aeronautical engineer, and a four-star U.S. Air Force general,” our reader said.
“General Doolittle exemplified the Air Force recruiting slogan — Aim High!”
FATHER’S DAY: People across the nation will be celebrating their fathers on Sunday, and we wanted to reach out to our readers to see if they had any tales they would care to share in honor of the holiday.
Do you have a heartwarming memory of an activity you and your father did together, or maybe a funny story? Perhaps you have a story about a time ol’ dad was right about something and you just didn’t want to believe him at the time?
Readers, we’d love to hear your tributes to dad.
