KANE — The Highland Recreational Association was formed to provide recreational and educational activities for area citizens; once again they have organized a day with a multitude of events for people of all ages.
From 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. June 30 the association will host a car and motorcycle show in James City, 3 miles south of Kane on Route 66.
Besides the car and motorcycle show, set for noon to 3 p.m., there will be vendors, a trophies ceremony, food, raffles, auctions, dunk tank, childrens games and music at the event.
Contests and games will also be held throughout the day. There will be a pie/cake eating contest, hot dog contest and a watermelon relay.
Registration is from 10 a.m. until noon for the car and motorcycle show entry. Entry fees will be payable at the gate or pre-registration is also available at a discounted price; pre-registered patrons will also be entered in a special drawing. In the case of inclement weather, refunds will be issued.
Later in the evening on June 30 there will be a kids car show and drive-in night in James City. Children are urged to construct a vehicle from a cardboard box to enter into the car show. Materials will be available on site until supplies run out.
The box cars will be judged and trophies awarded for the best of show, most creative and most realistic. Each participant will receive prizes for participation.
During the show there will also be other entertainment, including; music, balloon animals, video games on the big screen and movies. A snack bar will also be provided. Games will be provided before the kids car show begins to keep everyone entertained between events.
Funds raised on this day will help the Highland Recreational Association work on some of their current goals; getting electric in their shed, pull down side covers for the pavilion, fixing up the ball field and playground, purchasing concrete garbage cans and purchasing more equipment like a small pavilion for the playground area.
Pre-registration for both events is required, however, there is a deadline for the children’s car show of June 16 and boxes may be picked up before the event from 233 Bayard St.
