PORT ALLEGANY — The Port Allegany Borough Council shared zoning questions and concerns with the borough’s solicitor at Monday’s meeting.
The concerns related to building permit applications, potential business start-ups, and/or the sale of property. One issue that the council will have to determine relates to cell towers in the borough. While reviewing the building permit to add additional equipment to the current cell tower within the borough, it was found that communication towers are not specifically listed as a permitted conditional use anywhere in the borough.
The council members will need to determine how to treat the existing tower and determine how they would like to address communication towers in the future. Council members decided to allow Sprint to go ahead with their plans to add equipment to the current tower, however, they will continue to investigate the issue surrounding the communication towers.
Council also discussed damage done by a Liberty Township bucket truck while it was on loan to borough employees. While the truck was making a turn, a door on the utility bed opened and a tank slid out of the truck and into a vehicle stopped at the intersection of Route 155. Minimal damage was caused to the vehicle. However, since no formal agreement was signed, Liberty Township’s insurance received the bill for the damage. The council voted to split the bill with Liberty Township in half since they were using the equipment at the time of damage. The borough also is looking into creating an intermunicipal agreement with Liberty Township to protect both municipalities in case of another accident in the future.
Council’s next meeting will be held at 7:30 p.m. July 2.
