KANE —Mark A. Papalia, F.A.C.H.E., has been appointed president of UPMC Kane effective Friday.

Papalia began his career at UPMC Kane in January of 2005 as financial analyst and was later promoted to director of finance in 2009. Most recently, Papalia has served as director of operations.
Papalia received his bachelor’s degree in mathematics with a minor in statistics from the Pennsylvania State University at Erie, The Behrend College. He earned a masters in applied statistics from Bowling Green State University and received a certificate of healthcare financial management from Indiana University.
He is a member of the Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA) and the American College of Healthcare Executives. He achieved his board certification by earning his Fellowship in the American College of Healthcare Executives (FACHE).
“It is a tremendous honor to serve as president of this great hospital,” said Papalia, who has served as director of operations at the hospital since 2010. “I am excited about the opportunity to lead this hospital alongside an incredible team of employees, leaders, and physicians.”
Papalia resides in Warren.
Papalia succeeds J. Gary Rhodes, who announced his retirement last month. Rhodes served as president for the hospital since 1997.
