MEMORIAL DAY: Bradford poet Donald Neal is getting citizens in the spirit to remember Memorial Day honorees with his verse.
“Those Who Served”
It makes no difference what they did,
Or what branch of the military they served.
We must honor them for their service,
When Memorial Day is observed.
Those boys who would go to war,
Who at eighteen years old became men.
Many would not return.
This day we should honor them.
We must honor them not only on this day,
But every day of the year.
Those who would give their lives,
For the freedoms we hold dear.
We should not under estimate,
Just what those freedoms cost.
So many young men going off to war,
So many lives would be lost.
Their names are etched on granite walls,
For all Americans to see.
The names of those who gave their lives,
Are on memorials in Washington DC.
Americans are very fortunate people,
And as Americans may we never forget.
To those who fought for our country,
We will always be in debt.
A debt not of money but of gratitude,
For the freedoms we have today.
May those freedoms last forever,
And God Bless The USA.
“American Eagle”
As the eagle soars high in the sky,
On beautiful feathered wings.
The picture of that bird in flight,
Is awe inspiring.
You watch as he glides along,
With the wind in a cloudless sky.
And you think about America,
Where your freedom won’t be denied.
You think about how life would be,
If you lived in a foreign land.
Where you have no rights or freedom,
Is what some countries have planned.
But you are an American,
And in America you are free.
To follow your dreams and live in peace,
With your loved ones, your family.
Also as Americans we sometimes forget,
Just what that freedom has cost.
So many young men have gone to war,
So many lives have been lost.
To keep the freedoms that we have,
Everyone must do their share.
We cannot have the attitude,
That simply we just don’t care.
Just like that eagle soaring high in the sky,
On a warm and sun filled day.
A symbol of our peace and freedom,
We wouldn’t have it any other way.
So if you love your country America,
When at night you kneel to pray.
Thank God for the blessing of freedom,
And God Bless The USA.
