SMETHPORT (EC) — Rotary International President Ian Riseley challenged each club to make a difference by planting a tree for each one its members with the theme of “Rotary: Making a Difference.”
This means that worldwide 1.2 million trees could be planted, thereby reducing carbon dioxide and greenhouse gases, which slows global warming.
RI District 7280 paid for the 15 maple and flowering dogwood saplings, which are potted and will be kept at the Good Growing Gardens project in Smethport until they get established and are strong enough to be planted in Smethport Borough.
Rotarians consulted with members of the Smethport Shade Tree Commission about the types of trees that will flourish in this climate. Good Growing Gardens is a project of the McKean County Adult Probation Department.
