DUBOIS — DuBois Central took advantage of Cameron County miscues to score two runs in the first inning and went on to a 4-0 victory over the Red Raiders in their District 9 Class A quarterfinal round baseball playoff game on Wednesday.
“We had some throwing errors and a wild pitch,” said Cameron coach James Cooney, talking about DCC’s two runs in the opening frame. “In the fourth we had another throwing error and then in the sixth Garret Prosper hit an RBI double.”
The winning pitcher was Thomas Grecco who recorded nine strikeouts.
Cooney was pleased with the pitching effort turned in by Adam Shaffer, who allowed just one hit.
“Shaffer pitched a great game for us. We just left a lot of guys on base and made some mistakes in the field,” Cooney explained.
At the plate for the Red Raiders, Shaffer, Marcus Brown, Umble and Moore all had singles.
“It was an awesome experience for our team to go in and play on a turf field,” Cooney pointed out. “It was our first time in the playoffs since 2011, so it was a good end to a great year for us.”
DuBois Central moves on to the semifinals today, hosting Clarion-Limestone.
