CLARION — Joplin Osgood belted two doubles, one of them keying a two-run Coudersport rally in the sixth inning that gave the Lady Falcons the lead for good on the way to a 6-3 victory over Clarion in their quarterfinal round game of the District 9 Class A softball playoffs on Wednesday.
Also in the key sixth frame, EmmaRae Easton had an RBI double and Paiton Whipple singled home a run to put the Lady Falcons up 4-3.
Shaelyn Black sealed the deal with a two-run single in the top of the seventh for the final 6-3 score.
Madison Smith picked up the pitching win for Coudy. She scattered seven hits, struck out four batters and walked three.
“Madison’s throws were smart and effective,” said Coudy coach Dan Counts. “She kept them from driving the ball hard and our defense backed her with good plays.”
Clarion actually jumped out to a 2-0 lead before the visitors got back-to-back doubles from Osgood and Shaelyn Black and a sacrifice by Easton to tie the game at 2-2.
The Lady Bobcats went back in front 3-2 in the bottom of the fifth on Alexia Constantino’s double, but that only set the stage for Coudy’s rally in the sixth.
Also for the Lady Falcons, Rosalyn Page belted a double in the fifth inning.
“Our girls persevered. They played hard and continued to battle,” Counts noted. “We turned a double play in the bottom of the 7th to end the game.”
Sadie Rudesyle was the losing pitcher. She was touched for 10 hits, had seven strikeouts an issued just one free pass.
Coudersport, now 13-4, advances to the semifinals on Friday against A-C Valley. The site and time will be announced.

SMETHPORT — Cami McNany belted a three-run homer and a two-run double to key A-C Valley’s 10-2 upset of Smethport in the quarterfinals of the District 9 Class A softball playoffs on Wednesday.
McNany began her big night at the plate with a two-run double in the first inning and then triggered a five-run third inning with her home run blast.
“The home run really put us in a hole,” said Smethport coach Jon Peterson.
In the circle for the winners was Sydnie Schmidt. She scattered six hits, fanned four batters and issued two walks
Also for A-C, Sydney Rankin went 2-for-4 and Emily Wetzel was 2-for-5.

“We did not play our best game,” Peterson pointed out. “We didn’t hit the ball and when we did it was right at them. A-C Valley is a good team.”

“I’m proud of our girls going 15-3 and we also won our league,” he noted.
