A Limestone, N.Y., woman is facing allegations that she allowed a 13-year-old girl operate a motor vehicle.
Sara M. Schwab, 37, 599 Main St., was arraigned Sunday before District Judge Dominic Cercone on two counts of endangering the welfare of children and one count of corruption of minors, all first-degree misdemeanors; and one summary charge of permitting the violation of title-driving without a license.
The criminal complaint states that at 12:14 p.m. Sunday, a Bradford City Police officer who was driving west on Barbour Street approaching Campus Drive watched a sport utility vehicle that was traveling in east pull toward the right side of the road and activate its hazard lights.
The officer saw the driver was a “small female” who was “extremely young,” and he rolled down the window of the patrol car to see if she or the other occupants of the vehicle needed assistance, court records stated. When he realized the girl wasn’t looking at him, he activated his air horn to get her attention.
The girl rolled down her window, and he asked if she was having vehicle trouble; she said no. He then asked her how old she was, and she said 13, the complaint stated. Schwab — who allegedly allowed the teen to drive without a license — was in the passenger seat, and there was another juvenile female in the back seat.
Schwab was incarcerated in McKean County Jail in lieu of $2,500 bail. A Central Court appearance is scheduled for Thursday.
