PORT ALLEGANY — Community Blood Bank is issuing an immediate and critical need for all eligible Type O blood donors due to an ongoing decrease in blood donations and the upcoming Memorial Day weekend.
Blood donors will be able to give from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday in the gymnasium at the Port Allegany Elementary School.
Both O-Positive and O-Negative donors are needed before the holiday weekend, when inventory is expected to fall further from already diminished levels.
Community Blood Bank must collect approximately 1,000 donations each week to ensure area hospitals have an optimal supply of blood and blood products. Accident and burn victims, heart surgery and organ transplant patients and patients receiving treatment for leukemia, cancer or sickle cell disease may all require blood to help save their lives.
In addition to saving lives, Community Blood Bank donors will get an additional incentive and be automatically entered to win a kayak package that includes two kayaks, two paddles and a $100 gift card to Dick’s Sporting Goods/Field & Stream.
