EMPORIUM — Charges have been filed against a Clymer man in relation to an alleged police pursuit May 7 in Cameron County.
Joseph J. Gillo Jr., 27, is facing multiple criminal cases — the online court docket system indicates four cases — for allegations that he took part in a 14-hour crime spree from May 6-7 that spanned three counties.
It appears that Gillo, who is accused of crimes in Cambria, Indiana and Cameron counties, will be prosecuted for all charges related to the allegations in Cambria County.
Emporium-based state police reported that the Cameron County district attorney and the Cambria County district attorney made an agreement to transfer court proceedings to Cambria County.
For the alleged offenses in Cameron County, Gillo is charged with receiving stolen property and flight to avoid apprehension, both third-degree felonies; recklessly endangering another person, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, tampering with physical evidence, resisting arrest and fleeing or attempting to elude an officer, all second-degree misdemeanors; two counts of receiving stolen property, both third-degree misdemeanors; and the following summary charges: two counts of driving on the wrong side of the road and one count each of stop signs and yield signs, depositing waste and other materials on a highway, property or waters, careless driving and reckless driving.
Gillo, who was wanted on robbery and carjacking allegations from the night of May 6 in Johnstown, Cambria County, was arrested May 7 in Grove Township, Cameron County, after leading police in pursuit.
In the interim, Gillo allegedly fled from police who located him at a convenience store in Carrolltown Borough, Cambria County, and stole a truck from his father in Clymer, news and police reports indicated.
Police learned that the younger Gillo was possibly going to a camp off Wykoff Run Road, Cameron County, and around 11:30 a.m. May 7, Emporium-based state police tried to pull over Gillo, who was driving north on Wykoff Run Road.
Gillo allegedly led police in a pursuit, and law enforcement officials deployed spike strips, successfully deflating all four of the truck’s tires; the chase continued for another half-mile, when Gillo pulled over and was taken into custody, according to Emporium state police.
Emporium-based state police stated that Gillo is incarcerated on an arrest warrant from Cambria County, where he will be extradited and arraigned on the new charges against him.
