The Bradford Hospital Foundation awarded scholarships during a luncheon May 9 at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford.
Scholarships of $1,000 each were presented to Cheryl Wier, RN, SANE-A, SANE-P, of Salamanca, N.Y., and Marhea Unverdorben of Eldred.
Wier received the Doris Winship Newton Scholarship and is pursuing a master’s degree in forensic nursing from Aspen University. She is a nursing supervisor at Bradford Regional Medical Center and coordinator of the hospital’s sexual assault nurse examiner (SANE) program.
Unverdorben was presented the Benjamin O. and Blanche M. Wentworth Endowed Nurse Scholarship. After graduating high school in June, she will study nursing at Jamestown Community College. She plans to earn a master’s degree and become a nurse midwife.
“We are honored to remember our Bradford Hospital School of Nursing and the 600 RNs who graduated over its 60 year existence. Both of our scholarships are given in memory of its alumni, Doris Newton in 1938 and Blanche Wentworth in 1945,” said Francie Ambuske, executive director, Bradford Hospital Foundation.
