KANE — The Studio K Dance Force competitive dance team at Studio K.
This year featured dancers from Kane, Smethport, Bradford, Mount Jewett and Wilcox, ages seven through eighteen.
The SKDF attended two regional competitions, Ticket to Broadway in Akron, Ohio, and The Power of Dance in Pittsburgh. They were successful at both events, bringing home adjudications, category wins, overall placements, high score awards, judges awards and studio excellence awards.
Of particular note, Korrie Alexander, daughter of Todd and Julie Alexander of Kane, was awarded Miss All Star Power of Dance for her senior solo performance, a musical theatre number to “No More Fear” from Freaky Friday. Kaarina Hemdal, daughter of Tom and Barb Hemdal of Kane, was crowned Miss Super Star Power of Dance for her solo performance to “Good Thing He Can’t Read My Mind,” a musical theatre number.
Anna Nannen, daughter of Grey and Becky (Rossman) Nannen of Bradford and her duet partner, Madeline McDermott, daughter of Pat McDermott and Joleen Grolemund of Kane, were awarded a special “Comedic Gold” for their outstanding performance set to “Hakuna Matata.”
ALL SKDF soloists were awarded a scholarship to the “Soar” convention this upcoming January. Dancers included Alexander, Hemdal; Hailey Slater, daughter of Jason and Erika Slater; Jenna Gregory, daughter of Kirk and Holli Gregory; and Rory Undercoffer, daughter of Dave and Kate Undercoffer.
Kaarina Hemdal was also named a “Power Dancer” for the Power of Dance National Dance Team. Angela Cecchetti, daughter of Jim and Missy Cecchetti, returned to fill in for an injured dancer and was awarded a coveted “Hollywood Dance Intensive” Scholarship, worth $5,000 and a spot on the Ticket to Broadway Circle of Stars Dance Team.
Team members this year include: Korrie Alexander, Hailey Slater, Breanna Bernhard, Jenna Gregory, Madison Swanson, Anna Nannen, Madeline McDermott, Kiley Haight, Rory Undercoffer, Jenyka Hearst, Mia Ruscello, Madalyn Huber, Katelyn Myers, Samantha Galsick and Kaarina Hemdal.
The Studio K Dance Force turned in strong performances in every age group and style of dance competed. In fact, at their second competition, every dance the SKDF performed placed in the overall high score rankings.
Studio K will hold a recital at 7 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday at Johnsonburg High School.
