SMETHPORT — While the statewide races garnered plenty of attention on primary election night, some other races went on in the county as well.
Maryann Cole was seeking at least 300 write-in votes to get on the November Democratic ballot to challenge state Rep. Martin Causer, R-Turtlepoint, for the 67th district of the state House of Representatives. While write-in votes have yet to be counted, in McKean County, only 244 ballots were cast. It wasn’t yet known whether Cole was the only candidate with write-in votes cast in that race.
Write-in votes in Cameron and Potter counties were not immediately known.
In the local race for Republican state committee, Stacy Sorokes Wallace garnered 1,301 votes to defeat Lyle Stewart, who received 1,074 votes.
In Smethport Borough, Leo Church received 17 votes to Lester Jordan Jr.’s 14 for a Democratic committee seat.
No other races in the county were contested on the ballots.
