The Bradford City Zoning Hearing Board met Wednesday night at City Hall to discuss properties at 80 Kennedy St. and a parcel of land on the corner of Chautauqua Place and South Avenue.
The first motion concerned a privately-funded sober living house, Surrenity, located on Kennedy Street. The house, run by Network of the Spirit Ministries, has been up and running since October 2017. Dan Minich, a member of the board for Network of the Spirit Ministries, explained to the commission that a misunderstanding occurred when the property was originally purchased.
“Since the home was already in a zone which could house commercial properties, we did not know our specific property needed a special exemption until it was brought to my attention while searching for a second property to purchase,” said Minich.
There were several neighbors in attendance at the meeting, and many were given the floor to speak before any motion was carried. All echoed the same thing as neighbor Debbie Little, who stated, “we are fine with it, the place is well kept. Things have gone well so far with no issues.”
The board decided that a special adherence — that a copy of the Surrenity house’s rules and regulations, legal representation and the ministries’ Articles of Incorporation all be kept on hand with the zoning hearing board — be added to the exemption.
The motion was passed five votes to zero in favor of granting the Surrenity house its exemption.
The second item before the council was the requested grant of an exemption to have luxury apartments above a commercial space on the corner of Chautauqua Place and South Avenue. One of said retail spaces is slated to hold Dunkin Donuts. It was stated that the other three retail spaces have not yet been decided.
The second motion of the evening was also unanimous, in that five votes were for and zero against giving the exemption sought, as long as they agreed to meet all other stipulations put before them by the city, county and state.
