It appears that Republican candidate Clint Owlett was victorious in Tuesday’s special election for the 68th district of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives.
The special election was necessary when former Rep. Matt Baker, R-Wellsboro, stepped down to take the position of regional director of the Office of Intergovernmental and External Affairs at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
In Potter County, Republican Clint Owlett had 311 votes, while Democrat Carrie Heath had 95.
In Bradford County, Owlett had 2066 votes, while Heath received 482 tallies.
In Tioga County, Owlett had 5,457 votes, while Heath received 1,895.
State law allowed for each political party to select a nominee for the special election. All registered voters were permitted to vote in the special election.
Concurrently, the primary election was to determine who would fill the remaining six months of Baker’s two-year term. Heath will be on the Democratic ballot in the fall, as she was the only Democrat to file for office.
Owlett appeared to be victorious over the other two Republican challengers for the November ballot as well. The other challengers were Mark L. Hamilton and Dennis Weaver.
