Oswayo Valley 7, Port Allegany 1
PORT ALLEGANY — Garren Black struck out 12 batters on the way to a three-hitter that powered Oswayo Valley to a 7-1 victory over Port Allegany in high baseball action on Friday.
Black gave up one run in the bottom of the first and then held the Gators scoreless the rest of the game. He issued no walks.
The game wasn’t as easy as Black’s stats might indicate. The Green Wave had their hands full with the score deadlocked at 1-1 headed into the sixth frame when the visitors scored twice to make it 3-1 and then struck for four runs in the seventh to close it out.
Camden Graves and Black each had a double and along with Ryan Graves, all had RBIs for the winners, now 13-1 on the season.
“We had three errors in the seventh and were out of arms,” said Port A. coach Nate Zitnik. “We were a little tight but played good defensively. OV is really talented and just waited us out.”
David Talkington and Ethan Sprankle shared mound duties for the Gators, the pair giving up 14 hits.
“Talkington was pitching pretty well, but we just made some mistakes,” Zitnik explained.
At the plate for the Gators (5-8), Josh Rees belted a double and Howie Stuckey scored the team’s lone run.
Port Allegany is scheduled to host Cowanesque Valley today.
