In other business, council after meeting for more than an hour in an executive session to discuss personnel matters, returned to the public agenda and approved two matters: a contract with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers for one employee and hiring Michael DeLuca and Stone Page as summer employees. They will join Megan DeLuca and Brooke Kane-Walker who were rehired from last year. These college students will begin their jobs as soon as they start their summer vacations.
Council also OKd the use of a pavilion in Hamlin Lake Park for a 4-H day camp for three dates in July. Samantha Sessamen, 4-H youth development extension educator for Penn State Extension in McKean County, who attended the meeting, requested the use of the park for day camps on three Tuesdays: July 17, 24 and 31, saying the facility was the ideal place for the camps’ classes.
In his councilman report, Ryan Yingling said the borough will seek grant money for making repairs to George Murray Field, the home field of the Hubbers, and the construction of a kayak launch at Hamlin Lake. According to Yingling, the drainage and resurfacing of the infield at the baseball field is the more critical of the two projects.
Council also approved the purchase of a riding lawn mower for use in Hamlin Lake Park at an approximate cost of $9,400.
Councilman Jeff Tanner announced that an electronics collection will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on June 22 at the fairgrounds in East Smethport and a tire collection is scheduled from 8 a.m. to noon at the borough sheds on Marvin Street Extension.
